App Intro: What Is Honeydue?

What is Honeydue? Honeydue is a finance app that allows couples to manage their finances together in one place. Its goal is to bring transparency and strengthen financial literacy for couples. The app lets pairs sync their bank accounts which will then categorize all of their transactions automatically. This feature allows couples to view how and where their money is going. It can also notify them if they are going over budget.

The built-in messaging feature is a nice add-on within the app. If an individual notices an unusual purchase made, they can bring it up with their partner using the chat tool. Likewise, they can use it to discuss how they’ll split a payment.

The App

The app is a solid choice for couples who may be novices in managing their finances. It is simple and easy to use, which gives it a significant advantage over other budgeting apps – not to mention it’s completely free.

The app is limited in providing financial tools and resources, however. Setting a budget limit and seeing where your money is going is sufficient for most, which, Honeydue provides. But if you want to make long-term investment goals or establish a savings goal, you will need to look elsewhere, as Honeydue does not offer these tools at this time.

Cost Rating: 10/10

Nothing is better than free. With all that the app includes – all at the cost of zero – the app scores a solid 10. It has almost everything a couple would need to start managing their finances.

User Experience Rating: 7/10

The app is an excellent example of simplicity. The interface and structure make it easy for anyone to use. Almost everything you would need is accessible within just a couple of taps.

The fact that the app also syncs and categorizes all of your transactions automatically is another big win. The downside is that when you first start using the app and connecting your bank or card accounts, your transactions may not immediately sync. You may have to wait a day or two before those will appear.

The biggest hit to this rating is their customer support. Many customer reviews have complained about customer service not being responsive nor helpful. Although Honeydue provides online help articles, they may not answer all of your questions. They do have a live chat service, but it may take up to a day to hear a response.

Tools & Features Rating: 7/10

Within the app, you can use several tools and features. One is the Bills Reminder which notifies you of upcoming bills or expenses. You can set when these reminders occur and how frequent.

The Transactions feature shows you all of your recent and past transactions. You can see transactions from a particular account or multiple at the same time. You even have the option to select a specific transaction and leave a comment on it or split the expense with your partner.

Honeydue will also automatically create a monthly spending limit based on your total spending and earnings for you and your partner. You can change this if you want, including how you receive your reminders.

A big downside of Honeydue is that it doesn’t offer tools to help you reach your financial goals, such as building wealth or establishing a savings goal. You can set budget limits within the app, but that is about it. With this flaw in mind, Honeydue may not be the best choice if you want to build wealth over the long term.

Setup Rating: 9/10

The setup is straightforward. When you first open the app, it asks for your name and an email to send a confirmation code to create an account. Once you give this information, it will prompt you to invite a partner and add your bank or credit card accounts, which you can skip if you wish to do so.

Although setting up your profile and linking your accounts is quick and easy, there might be a delay where transactions are not immediately synced and displayed on the app. As mentioned, it may take a day or two before these will appear.
